FR INSTALLATION
I became interested in the light after the sun had gone down, the twilight going into blue-black light: residual light.
These are spaces, existing at the margins of vision, an accumulation of the residual light projected thought, its distilled essence. This is an intense world saturated with colour and inner emanation of light. Here everything becomes possible, yet everything can end.
In FR the artwork begins to illuminate blue light and open. I simply examine the invigorating potential in the weight and shape. The installation is enriched by being seen in sequences in which the viewer is led through the exploration of light range.
The simplicity of the method does not diminish the allure of the final creation: rather it has a deep and satisfying physical and conceptual purity. On one level, these images can be absorbed for their visceral pleasures of sensing colored light.
Much of my recent abstract work, has focused on the interaction of light, colour and space, suggesting an equally ascendant, or transcendent, 'third way'. The point of meeting is a kind of threshold, a space between that is the fusion of generating elements. The journey within this threshold demands surrender, concentration and silence.
To be understood further, my work can be positioned simultaneously in the development of abstract art and fascination with the almost magical interaction of light and dark.
